The growth of human activities without planning results in decreased of environmental quality and problems such as increased erosion, pollution and biodiversity loss. Remote sensing techniques are used to analyze the use and land cover. According to Brazilian law, the Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) are physical and natural protected areas without any human activity. Areas around rivers (riparian forest), areas around springs, mangrove areas and hilltops are examples of PPAs. This study aimed to analyze the conservation of Permanent Preservation Areas (PPAs) in the basin of the river São Domingo, in the municipality of Tibagi (Paraná state, Brazil). We used Geospatial data of Paraná Water Institute (vector of drainage network and basin of São Domingos) and Brazilian Ministry of the Environment (Rapid eye images sensor). It was generated land cover map and PPAs map of basin São Domingos. The two new maps were overlay, allowed identify preserved and degraded PPAs. As a result, 45% of PPAs in the study area are degraded. 80% of PPAs'' hill top and 85% of the PPAs'' springs are occupied by human activities. The PPAs'' springs is a critical case. About 85% of the PPAs'' springs are occupied by human activities. The presence of anthropogenic activities in PPAs'' springs may cause its pollution and even the disappearance of springs.
